Services

Structural steel erection for buildings and industrial facilities

RVS provides the cranes and skilled labor for assembling and installing the steel framework that forms the skeleton of a building or structure. Steel erection involves lifting, positioning, aligning, and securing steel beams, columns, girders, and other components according to engineered drawings and specifications. The work typically includes:
  • Unloading and staging fabricated structural steel from delivery trucks.
  • Craning steel members into position using rigging equipment.
  • Bolting and welding connections to secure the framework.
  • Plumbing and leveling to ensure the structure is square and true.
  • Installing secondary components such as joists, decking, and bracing.

Structural steel erection is a critical phase in construction—providing the strength, stability, and shape that all other building systems depend on.

Joist and deck installation

RVS sets the horizontal framing members and floor or roof decking that span between the main structural steel beams. Joist and deck installation creates the horizontal structural surfaces—floors and roofs—that tie the steel frame together and support subsequent construction.  This is a key step in completing a building’s structural frame and preparing it for concrete placement or roofing. The work typically includes:
  • Receiving and staging materials – Bundles of steel joists and metal decking are unloaded and organized at the job site for efficient installation.
  • Hoisting and placement – Using cranes, joists are lifted into position between beams or walls and temporarily braced.
  • Aligning and securing joists – Joists are aligned per the structural drawings and fastened at bearing points using bolts or welds. Bridging or bracing is installed for stability.
  • Installing metal decking – Corrugated steel deck panels are laid over the joists or beams, lapped, and fastened (typically by welding, screws, or shot pins).
  • Edge angles and openings – Perimeter angles, pour stops, and framed openings (for stairs, HVAC, etc.) are installed.
  • Final inspection and concrete pour preparation – Once the deck is secure and inspected, it’s ready for the next phase, such as concrete placement for floors or roofing installation.

Crane and rigging services

RVS can help with the planning, lifting, moving, and precise placement of heavy materials or equipment on a job site—typically using cranes, rigging gear, and skilled operators. These services generally include:

  • Crane operation and setup – Supplying and operating mobile or tower cranes to lift steel members, equipment, and other materials.
  • Rigging planning and engineering – Determining lift capacities, selecting proper rigging gear (slings, shackles, spreader bars), and developing safe lift plans.
  • Hoisting and placement – Lifting steel beams, columns, joists, and other components into position accurately and safely.
  • Load handling and signaling – Coordinating between crane operators and riggers using standard hand signals or radios.
  • Heavy equipment relocation – Moving large machinery, building components, or prefabricated assemblies around the site.
  • Safety management – Ensuring all lifting operations comply with OSHA standards and site-specific safety requirements.

On-site welding and field modifications

RVS crews perform welding and adjustment work directly at the construction site to assemble, connect, or alter steel components as needed during erection.  On-site welding and field modifications ensure the steel structure fits and performs exactly as designed, accommodating real-world conditions that can’t always be anticipated in fabrication. These services typically involved:

  • Welding of connections – Completing welds between beams, columns, braces, and other members where bolted connections aren’t used or additional strength is required.
  • Attachment of miscellaneous items – Welding base plates, embeds, stiffeners, clips, and other connection hardware.
  • Field modifications – Adjusting or altering steel components that need to be trimmed, re-drilled, or reworked to fit field conditions or design changes.
  • Repair welding – Fixing damaged or misaligned steel, or correcting fabrication errors identified during installation.
  • Certified welders and inspection – Using qualified welders per AWS (American Welding Society) standards, often followed by visual or non-destructive testing.

Field layout support

Field layout involves accurately marking and verifying the locations of structural elements on the job site before and during installation to ensure that the steel framework is erected in the correct position, elevation, and alignment per the project’s drawings and specifications.  Field layout support provides the precision and reference control needed for safe, efficient, and accurate steel erection. Typical activities include:

  • Surveying and control points – Establishing reference lines and benchmarks from the general contractor’s site survey.
  • Layout of column lines and anchor bolts – Verifying anchor bolt locations and marking column centerlines to guide erection.
  • Setting elevations and grids – Using total stations or laser levels to confirm beam elevations, floor heights, and grid intersections.
  • As-built verification – Checking erected steel for plumbness, alignment, and proper spacing.
  • Coordination with other trades – Ensuring the steel layout integrates correctly with concrete, mechanical, and architectural systems.
